2008 Tet Trung Thu

We held our annual Tet Trung Thu celebration on September 10 at Made in Kitchen.  Every year, on the mid-autumn festival, children light lanterns and participate in a procession at dawn.  Vietnamese families plan their activities around their children on this special day. Lanterns represent brightness while the procession symbolizes success in school.  Other children’s activities include arts and crafts in which children make face masks and lanterns. To celebrate the Tet Trung Thu traditions, VABAW hung lanterns and the children attending the event were treated with lanterns as gifts.  Pictured below are VABAW member Andrew Nguyen and his daughter Sophie.

2008 Little Saigon Spring Clean-Up

VABAW participated in the Little Saigon Spring Clean-Up with the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority (SCIDpda) on April 19, 2008. Nine VABAW members braved the cold, snow, sleet and rain to paint over graffiti in the Little Saigon area. In addition to painting various lightpoles, doors, and panels, VABAW painted three huge building walls marked with graffiti. Before and after photos of two of the buildings are below. We hope you can join us next year for this event as VABAW continues its community service outreach and projects.
